House training your dog.

Part of the responsibility of pet ownership includes making sure your dog is well-trained. Dogs who are well trained tend to be happier. They know what to expect and when to expect it. This also provides a safer environment for you, the dog, and your neighbors. You can work with your dog on your own, or get the help of a trainer. Here are some helpful ideas to get you going.

Make sure that the only items your dog can reach are chew toys that are specifically made for dogs. Take it away, and give him a chew toy. If the puppy is suffering any pain from teething, freeze a wet washcloth for him or her to chew on.

When house training your dog, be sure your dog has a predictable feeding and elimination routine. This gives you important forehand knowledge to prevent accidents and your dog an association of cause and effect to follow. A schedule is a great way to train a dog how to hold in their needs till they can go out.

Use the dog's name often when training to ensure that you have their attention. Use it often in the early days of training, so your pup learns that he should pay attention to you when you call his name. For best results, the dog's name should be short and not sound like any other word in the English language.

If you have a puppy that likes to chew on everything when you are away from home, the easiest solution is to consider an indoor or outdoor kennel to use in your absence. If you can't put him outside due to regulations or weather, use dog gates to make certain rooms inaccessible, and put valuables in high places.

Don't give up when you're training your dog. Your dog will not remember his training if you are not there to constantly remind him of what you expect. Consistent training is key to a happy relationship with your pup.

The more active your dog is, the healthier it will be. Just like humans, dogs can become bored easily. When a dog is bored, he will be hard to train. A happy and well-exercised dog is an easily trained dog. It is a great idea to take your dog out on runs or walks through the neighborhood.

Teaching your dog to not tug and pull when on his leash is an important part of his training. Think of the leash as a safety requirement.

If you've noticed that specific things trigger your dog's bad behavior, then keep it busy when that thing is occurring, so your dog can't concentrate on it. As an example, if your dog doesn't like to be around other dogs, then you need to keep him busy with his attention focused on you when you approach other dogs while on a walk. This could re-jigger his associations and make him associate other dogs with positive reinforcement.

Punishment is an ineffective tool for training your dog. Your training efforts should be to prevent bad behavior. Teach your dog what constitutes inappropriate behavior, and what is an acceptable behavior. Build a positive relationship with your dog during the training process.

For a happier and more content dog, be sure to provide it with things to do that will stimulate its thinking and keep its mind active. Giving your dog fun toys and treats such as Kong Toys or Busy Bones is a great way to keep them happy. You should also walk them on a regular basis so that they can get out any pent up energy. A dog that does not have anything to do may start chewing on your personal belongings.

To obtain optimal results, used treats that your dog loves. Even if its foods that are not generally permitted, like hotdogs or cheese.

To soothe your dog's separation anxiety, help it to develop relationships with other people and animals. By developing other relationships, the dog will be able to become less attatched to you.

When trying to train a puppy it is important to resist games such as tug-of-war. They encourage puppies to bite. Once your puppy is older and well trained, you can play rough games.

When training your dog, make it fun for the both of you. The dog will respond more positively to training if you create a better bond between you and them. Training can be a good and fun time with your dog, but you should also set aside time that is just for play.

Although lots of breeds get along with other dogs in training, whether or not you can train your dogs together is really up to their individual personalities. You may have to train them separately, rather than together, as they probably want to play with each other rather than listen to you.

Dogs need routine, so feed your dog at the same time every day. This also helps with training. This will help you better understand when your dog needs to go outside, so he doesn't go on the carpet and ruin it. When a dog has a schedule, they also learn the valuable skill of "holding it" until you take him for his next scheduled trip outside.

More often than not, dogs bite out of fear more than anything else. This happens when dogs feel frightened, trapped, or threatened. Do not get physical with your dog. This makes your dog more likely to bite. A dog that respects you will obey you.

Most dogs are eager to please and respond better to rewards than punishment. You need to demonstrate proper behavior, then work with your dog over time and reward him when he does the right thing. This is the best way to teach your dog new tricks. Show your pet the right way through rewards and repetition.

Give your dog new challenges often. Make sure you quiz him on the stuff he knows, so he stays on his toes.

Always use your dogs name when you need his attention. To have some good control over your dog, a solid response is crucial. Call them to you at least ten times a day. Try to avoid punishing your dog when it comes to you after you call out its name while using this technique.

Most people are surprised how quickly their dog can learn from training and how fast they get results. So if you are looking to change any of your dog's wayward ways, try some of our tips for quick success.
