Teach your dog to be tolerant.

All dogs need to be trained. They need to learn things that they should do and they need to get rid of habits that they shouldn't do. This article has some helpful advice on how to train your dog.

Get your dog ready for veterinary exams at a young age. Give your pet lots of attention and positive reinforcement during this time. Try and teach him to be tolerant of having his teeth and paws examined. You might want to ask your buddies to assist you in the process.

When house training your dog, be sure your dog has a predictable feeding and elimination routine. This gives you important forehand knowledge to prevent accidents and your dog an association of cause and effect to follow. A schedule is a great way to train a dog how to hold in their needs till they can go out.

If you want to keep your dog trim and healthy, keep an eye on how many reward snacks you give him while training him. Many people overlook treats when considering the animal's diet, but they certainly add up, especially during active training.

Dogs tend to concentrate on one thing to the exclusion of everything else unless that concentration is interrupted. Dogs learn by repetition so with continued training, your dog will immediately focus on what you are saying.

As soon as you get your puppy, the first thing to teach him/her is their name; this will help build a bond between animal and human. Use their name often, and then teach them how to come to you when called. Your puppy's name should be one of its first words learned. Try to spend a good amount of time with your new dog. Once your puppy trusts you, it will be easier to train him.

A good training method for your dog is to have him hold an object in his mouth. Every time he does it, give him a snack and use the clicker. Once he learns the association, hold off on the clicker until he has the toy in his mouth. When he holds the toy in his mouth, use the clicker and reward him. Don't reward him until he secures it in his mouth.

Above all else, consistency is the key to effective dog training. Make sure everyone involved in your dog's life uses the same commands that you do. It is also recommended that everyone use the same positive reinforcements for good behavior and negative response when the dog is disobedient. By having different responses from different people will most likely confuse the dog, which may make the training more problematic.

When potty training your dog, stay away from wee-wee pads. Wee-wee pads are prone to leaks, which make your dog think that it is okay to eliminate in that area due to the smell. Wee-wee pads also make dogs use similar shaped objects as a bathroom. Instead, it is far preferable to teach your pet that outdoors is the only acceptable place to relieve itself.

Whenever you are teaching a dog a multi-step task, reduce it to a series of smaller tasks. A simple example is teaching your dog to get the morning paper. You will need to teach him or her how to hold something first. He needs to associate the object with a name. You will then need to teach the dog how to pick something up. Then finally, he should bring it to you. When you train your dog by breaking down a behavior into stages, he will understand that each step relates to the other.

Make use of a crate when training your dog. Let your dog roam free each day, though, or crate training could have adverse effects. A dog trained in a create will have less accidents with time.

Be consistent with your dog training to make sure your animal stays obedient to the rules it has been learning. One of the most common mistakes pet owners make is assuming that once training has been completed, no maintenance is required thereafter. However, pets are creatures of habit. This is why you must make sure that you have a rule system that is strict for your dog.

Learning how to show authority is the foundation of all dog training. You must command your dog's respect by being able to maintain discipline, or his obedience will be out of the question. Demonstrate your position of authority to your dog by leading the way whenever the two of you are walking.

It's best when the entire household is helping with dog and puppy training. You may have one member of the family that does much of the training with him, but by having the entire family take part in the training, he will learn that he must obey each person that lives in the home.

Communication is a crucial component of the training process. Do your best to remain consistent in the training of your dog. Use the same tone of voice, body language, correction methods, and rewards each time you train your dog. Remember to always pay attention to the communication signals from your dog. They will inform you of whether or not they are overworked, anxious, or having a great day.

If you want to train your dog the right way, consider enrolling in an obedience class. The trained instructors can help your pup with any issues he may have, including unnecessary barking, chewing, house training and normal obedience issues.

One tip to keep in mind when training your dog is to not give up. Through constant and positive reinforcement, you will be able to train your dog to retain the behaviors you teach them. Much like providing your pet with food, training is a continuous process that is never truly finished.

When dog training, assign a particular word or action to each behavior. Dogs respond well to this because it helps them to understand what you are looking for from them when you speak a certain way. The best tip is to stay consistent. Consistent commands will help make your training successful.

When house training your new puppy, accidents are likely to happen from time to time. Make certain the accidents are cleaned up immediately, so your training efforts cans stay on course. Urine and feces scents can attack to the fibers of your carpet, which will lead to your dog repeatedly using the bathroom in that spot. You can buy a spray or carpet shampoo that will remove the odor.

Whenever you want your dog's attention, use its name. You will not be able to control your dog if you do not get his attention first. Practice calling your dog's name and letting him respond at least tens times a day. Also, it is very inappropriate for you to call the dog over to you and then punish him, as this will teach him to fear you and discourage him from coming when called.

When you get your puppy, be sure to create a bond to him by helping him learn his name. Repeat his name regularly, so he will learn to come to you when he hears it. These should be the primary words your dog needs to learn. Spending a lot of time interacting and playing with your puppy is the best way to establish a bond of love and trust. This will make him easier to train later.

Hopefully the tips we have given will ensure that you, as well as others, enjoy your dog and his company. By training your dog properly, you will prevent stress and frustration in both your lives. You can train your dog yourself, or find a professional to help, no matter which way you go, having a well-trained dog will offer you and your dog many happy years together.
